Boxscore Wheaton took the early lead with a goal just 5:22 into the match, snapping shutout streaks of 325 minutes for Dorris individually and Stockton as a team. The Ospreys began applying more offensive pressure in the latter part of the first half but could not break through. Leah Pocoroba (Galloway/Holy Spirit) narrowly missed getting to a long pass that the Wheaton goalie grabbed just in time and Shelley Gibney (Shamong/Seneca) almost tied the score on a 10-yard shot that sailed a little high. Wheaton added another tally 3:59 into the second half for a 2-0 edge and managed to preserve the shutout. Amanda Altman (Beachwood/Toms River South) recorded Stockton’s final quality scoring chance with 13:30 remaining when she headed a free kick on net but was denied by the Wheaton goalie. The 2-0 defeat ended Stockton’s season, which included a fourth consecutive NCAA Tournament berth, with a 14-7-2 record. |
