ABAD AKHTAR NAMED NJAC RUNNER OF THE WEEK FOR FIFTH TIME

Richard Stockton junior Abad Akhtar (Brigantine/Atlantic City) was named the NJAC Men’s Cross Country Runner of the Week for the fifth time this year. Akhtar finished 180th out of 276 runners at the NCAA Division III Cross Country Championship, which was hosted by Baldwin-Wallace College (OH). One of two NJAC men’s runners at the national meet, Akhtar posted an eight-kilometer time of 27:22.70.

Akhtar became just the second Stockton runner to compete in the NCAA Cross Country Championship, joining two-time NCAA participant Randy Wetzel (2000, 2002). He was running in fifth place early in the race before being hampered by a tight quad muscle caused by a slip in some mud on course.

Akhtar’s performance capped an outstanding season in which he earned USTFCCCA All-Atlantic Region honors, won three races and finished in the top ten an additional two times while running in a total of nine meets for Stockton.
