Sean Nelson

Three Richard Stockton soccer players were named to their respective ECAC Metro All-Star Teams. Junior midfielder Shelley Gibney (Shamong/Seneca) collected ECAC Metro First Team honors in women’s soccer. Junior forward Rafael Duarte (Ocean City/Ocean City) was voted to the ECAC Metro First Team and junior midfielder Sean Nelson (Toms River/TR South) was chosen to the ECAC Metro Second Team in men’s soccer.

Gibney led the Stockton women’s soccer team to its fourth consecutive NCAA Tournament berth with eight goals and a team-high eight assists for 24 points, which tied for the team scoring lead. The flank midfielder also paced the Ospreys with four game-winning goals. Gibney, a two-time NJAC Offensive Player of the Week this season, was voted NJAC Midfielder of the Year and earned a spot on the NJAC All-Conference First Team for her efforts.

Duarte finished third in the NJAC with a team-high 12 goals and also dished three assists for a team-leading 27 points, which tied for third among all NJAC players. The goal-scoring phenom also led Stockton with four game-winning goals despite missing four games due to injury. Duarte was named the NJAC Offensive Player of the Year and voted to the NJAC All-Conference First Team last month.

Nelson scored four goals and topped the Ospreys with seven assists for 15 points in 21 starts this season. The center midfielder tied for third in the NJAC in assists as well. In November, Nelson was named to the NJAC All-Conference First Team and the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District II Third Team for his performance in the classroom as well as on the field.
