Eighth-ranked Richard Stockton (5-2, 0-1 NJAC) could not withstand blistering shooting by New Jersey City (5-1, 1-0) as the Gothic Knights pulled off the 76-71 upset. NJCU shot 61.5 percent from the field including a torrid 11-16 (68.8%) from three-point range. The Gothic Knights snapped Stockton’s five-game win streak despite a game-high 19 points from Kai Massaquoi (Lawnside/Haddon Hts.) who shot 11-13 at the free throw line.

Michael Farrow (Whitesboro/Middle Twp.) tallied 12 points while teammates DiAndre Brown (Sicklerville/Camden County Tech) and Santini Lancioni (Runnemede/Paul VI) each chipped in with 10 points for Stockton. Lancioni also dished a game-high six assists

The Ospreys started slowly and fell behind 12-3 in the first five minutes. Stockton briefly took a 35-34 lead on a free throw by Matt Haddix (Sicklerville/Vineland) late in the half, but the Gothic Knights closed with a 6-2 spurt and led 40-37 at the break. Massaquoi topped all scorers with 11 first-half points.

Lancioni hit consecutive three-pointers during a 12-0 run that gave Stockton a 49-44 lead four minutes into the second half. The Ospreys later led by five again at 66-61 after two Massaquoi free throws with 6:58 to play, but NJCU answered with an 11-2 run and took the lead for good. Stockton scored just five points in the final 6:57 of the game and fell 76-71.
