SHEPHERD CHOSEN NJAC FIELD ATHLETE OF THE WEEK |
Richard Stockton senior Lisa Shepherd (Mays Landing/ Oakcrest) was chosen the initial NJAC Women’s Field Athlete of the Week for the 2009-10 indoor track & field season. Shepherd began her senior year by winning the high jump at the Collegiate Track Conference Relay Carnival at Yale University yesterday. Shepherd cleared a height of 1.69 meters (5’6.50”) that already earned her provisional qualifying status for the NCAA Championships.
Shepherd also ran a leg of the 4x400 relay, in which Stockton finished third with a time of 4:27.17 at the meet. She collected NJAC Women’s Field Athlete of the Week honors for the seventh time in her illustrious career. Shepherd, a four-time All-American, was named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America Women’s Track/Cross Country Second Team and selected the Stockton Female Athlete of the Year last spring. Shepherd could have up to two more opportunities to pursue an elusive NCAA high jump title as she competes in indoor and outdoor track & field this season. In four previous trips to the NCAA Championships, she has finished second twice, tied for third and eighth. Shepherd also will try to win her fourth consecutive NJAC indoor high jump championship in February and third straight NJAC outdoor high jump title in May. |
