Alvernia 74, Stockton 72

Richard Stockton (5-3) rallied from an early 21-point deficit and led briefly before falling to Alvernia (5-1) 74-72 at the Gettysburg Days Inn Tournament. LaTonya Oliver (West Berlin/Overbrook) led the Ospreys with 14 points followed by Julia Fagan (New Britain, CT/New Britain) with 12 points and Che’Na Thompson (Salem/Salem) with 11 points. Stockton shot just 1-13 from three-point range in the game.

The Ospreys trailed 42-21 before closing the first half on a 9-2 run to pull within 44-30 at the break. The comeback continued in the second half with Stockton cutting the gap to one , 55-54, on a 14-0 run that Oliver sparked with three consecutive layups. The Ospreys finally took the lead at 69-67 as Fagan capped a six-point Stockton burst with a layup at the 1:58 mark.

After two Alvernia free throws tied the score, Fagan sank another layup to give Stockton a 71-69 edge with 1:17 to play. Alvernia responded with four consecutive points for a 73-71 lead with 21 seconds left. Nancy White (Ocean City/Ocean City) hit one of two free throws with seven ticks on the clock to get Stockton within 73-72 but an Alvernia free throw sealed the outcome, 74-72.
