CHE’NA THOMPSON EARNS SECOND NJAC ROOKIE OF THE WEEK AWARD |
Richard Stockton freshman Che’Na Thompson (Salem/ Salem) was named the NJAC Women’s Basketball Rookie of the Week for the second time this season. Thompson led the 11-9 Ospreys to three victories in five days by averaging 13.0 points, 8.3 rebounds, 4.3 steals and 4.0 assists per game. The impressive freshman also sank three three-pointers and went 4-5 (80%) at the free throw line to help the Ospreys build a four-game winning streak.
Thompson registered 16 points, a game-high six steals and four assists as the Ospreys defeated College of New Jersey 71-64 for a key NJAC South Division win on January 27. The small forward then posted her second college double-double with 12 points and a career-high 13 rebounds in a 47-45 triumph over Rutgers-Newark on Saturday. Less than 24 hours later, Thompson notched 11 points, eight rebounds and four assists in a 74-58 victory over Hunter. Thompson, one of the top freshmen in the NJAC this season, leads the young Stockton team in scoring at 11.2 points per game. She also is averaging 5.7 rebounds and 2.2 steals per contest. Thompson has been especially effective in the last five games, scoring in double figures each time while averaging 15.0 points and 7.6 rebounds to lead Stockton to a 4-1 record. |
