Stockton Teams Excel at Widener Meet

Richard Stockton won five events and tied for first in another, highlighting strong performances at the Danny Curran Invitational hosted by Widener University. Jill Shaner (Egg Harbor Twp./EHT) led the Ospreys by winning the javelin with a meet record and NCAA provisional qualifying toss (43.25m) that is the best throw in the nation thus far. Mahogany Mitchell (Atlantic City/Atlantic City) won the hammer throw (43.48m) and finished second in the discus (32.23m).

Rachel Joseph (Livingston/Livingston) won the pole vault (3.20m) while Lisa Shepherd (Mays Landing/Oakcrest) tied for first and broke the meet record in the high jump (1.62m) for the Stockton women’s team. On the men’s side, Demetrius Rooks (Galloway/Absegami) won the 400m hurdles (54.37 seconds) and Ben Hammond (Williamstown/Williamstown) won the triple jump (13.55m).

The Ospreys were bolstered by a number of second-place finishes as well. Shelley Gibney (Shamong/Seneca) placed second in the 400m hurdles (1:05.88) and Nikki Stratton (Stratford/Sterling) was second in the long jump (5.23m). Travis Decker (Little Egg Harbor/Pinelands) finished second in the discus (39.28m) and Ryan Mazzeo (Marmora/ Ocean City) tied for second in the pole vault (4.25m).
