Stockton Teams Excel at Widener Meet |

Richard Stockton won five events and tied for first in another, highlighting strong performances at the Danny Curran Invitational hosted by Widener University. Jill Shaner (Egg Harbor Twp./EHT) led the Ospreys by winning the javelin with a meet record and NCAA provisional qualifying toss (43.25m) that is the best throw in the nation thus far. Mahogany Mitchell (Atlantic City/Atlantic City) won the hammer throw (43.48m) and finished second in the discus (32.23m). Rachel Joseph (Livingston/Livingston) won the pole vault (3.20m) while Lisa Shepherd (Mays Landing/Oakcrest) tied for first and broke the meet record in the high jump (1.62m) for the Stockton women’s team. On the men’s side, Demetrius Rooks (Galloway/Absegami) won the 400m hurdles (54.37 seconds) and Ben Hammond (Williamstown/Williamstown) won the triple jump (13.55m). The Ospreys were bolstered by a number of second-place finishes as well. Shelley Gibney (Shamong/Seneca) placed second in the 400m hurdles (1:05.88) and Nikki Stratton (Stratford/Sterling) was second in the long jump (5.23m). Travis Decker (Little Egg Harbor/Pinelands) finished second in the discus (39.28m) and Ryan Mazzeo (Marmora/ Ocean City) tied for second in the pole vault (4.25m). |
