||
Richard Stockton senior Lisa Shepherd (Mays Landing/ Oakcrest) was named the NJAC Women’s Field Athlete of the Week while freshman Demetrius Rooks (Galloway/Absegami) was chosen the NJAC Men’s Track & Field Rookie of the Week. Shepherd and Rooks earned the NJAC weekly awards after winning events at the Collegiate Track Conference (CTC) Championships over the weekend. Shepherd won the high jump at the CTC meet with a season-best effort of 1.70 meters. The five-time All-American finished first out of 13 competitors for her third victory of the year. The winning jump also gave Shepherd provisional qualifier status for the 2010 NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships. Shepherd already has competed in the NCAA Championships five times (two indoor, three outdoor) and earned All-American honors each time. Rooks won the 400-meter hurdles at the CTC Championships, his fourth win in five meets, with a personal-best time of 53.96 seconds that made him a provisional qualifier for the NCAA Championships. Rooks also ran a leg of the 4x400 relay, in which the Ospreys finished second at 3:25.42, and he placed eighth out of 38 entrants in the 200-meter dash with a time of 22.86 seconds. Rooks earned NJAC Rookie of the Week honors for the second time this season. |
