Akhtar Qualifies for NCAA Championships for Second Time

Richard Stockton senior Abad Akhtar (Brigantine/Atlantic City) qualified for the NCAA Division III Cross Country Championships for the second consecutive year by finishing 12th out of 268 runners with a time of 25:09 in the NCAA Atlantic Regionals at SUNY Oneonta.

Akhtar earned USTFCCCA All-Region honors and joined Randy Wetzel (2000, 2002) as Stockton’s only two-time NCAA qualifiers. He will compete in the NCAA Championships at Wartburg College (IA) on November 20.

Senior Robyn Evangelist (Northfield/Mainland) was Stockton’s top runner in the women’s race, placing 42nd out of 236 competitors with a time of 23:35 in her final college event. The Stockton men’s team finished 18th out of 39 while the Osprey women’s squad placed 22nd out of 33 at the NCAA Regionals.

Jim Codianni (Medford/Shawnee) and Morgan Sinclair (Chadds Ford, PA/Unionville) each finished 115th in their races with times of 27:26 and 25:16 respectively. Matt Ardelean (Margate/Atlantic City) placed 130th at 27:40 for the Stockton men’s team while Katherine Rudy (Bound Brook/Bound Brook) crossed the line at the 25:50 mark for 140th place in the final meet of the season for the Stockton teams.
