Stockton 52, William Paterson 49 (OT)

Richard Stockton (4-2, 2-0 NJAC) remained unbeaten in conference play for the young season as they defeated William Paterson (3-4, 0-2) 52-49 in overtime. Four Stockton players scored in double figures, led by Nnamdi Usuwa (Colonia/ Colonia) with game-highs of 13 points and 13 rebounds.

Colin Horsch (Monroe Twp. /Atlantic Christian) hit three three-pointers and scored a career- high 11 points. Kai Massaquoi (Lawnside/Haddon Heights) also scored 11 points and Pat Kelly (Cape May CH/Wildwood Catholic) netted all 10 of his points in the second half.

William Paterson led 20-18 after the first half as both teams had difficulty shooting in the tough defensive affair. Massaquoi and Horsch kept the Ospreys close with five points apiece while Usuwa added four as the trio combined for all but four of Stockton’s points. William Paterson shot 35 percent, slightly better than Stockton at 33.3 percent.

Stockton stretched a lead to eight points in the second half after Horsch capped a 6-0 spurt with a three-pointer for a 40-32 advantage, but the Pioneers climbed into a 47-43 lead with a 15-3 run. Stockton then answered with the last four points of regulation, tying the game with a putback by Kelly on a missed free throw with 38 seconds remaining to force overtime.

William Paterson scored the only points in the first 3:40 of the OT for a 49-47 lead. Usuwa hit a jumper and then Kelly found Matt Haddix (Sicklerville/Vineland) for a layup before Usuwa drained a free throw for a 52-49 Stockton lead with five seconds left. A running three-pointer by William Paterson glanced off the rim at the buzzer as Stockton prevailed.
