Richard Stockton (5-1) used a 15-3 run to open the second half and won going away over York (NY) (4-3) 69-49 in the opening game of the 2010 Amherst Classic. LaTonya Oliver (West Berlin/Overbrook) led the way with a game-high 19 points, including 10 in the second stanza when the Ospreys outscored York 42-22.

The Ospreys had a nine-point lead in the first half after Aspen Price-Perry (Lindenwold/Lindenwold) capped a 13-4 run with a three-pointer, but York stormed back to tie it 27-27 at the break. Oliver led Stockton with nine first-half points. York was able to turn 10 Osprey turnovers into 11 points and also score 10 second-chance points to forge the tie.

With Julia Fagan (New Britain, CT/New Britain), Che’Na Thompson (Salem/Salem) and freshman Lauren Alwan (Winslow/Timber Creek) each contributing eight points in the second half, the Ospreys were able to pull away from York.

After the break, Stockton pushed the lead to 42-30 as Alwan netted five points during a 9-0 spurt. York cut the double digit lead down to six but a seven-point burst by the Ospreys put the game away. Stockton led by double digits for the last 9:25 and won 69-49.

Fagan, Alwan and Thompson all finished with 10 points in support of Oliver. Fagan also grabbed a game-high 14 rebounds, including 11 in the decisive second half. Stockton’s defense held York to just 29.6 percent shooting for the contest.
