#1 Amherst 95, Stockton 64

Richard Stockton (5-2) outscored the top-ranked team in the nation in the second half but could not overcome a huge deficit as #1 Amherst College (7-0) ran out to a 32-point first-half lead and posted a 95-64 win over the Ospreys in the championship game of the Amherst Classic.

Julia Fagan (New Britain, CT/New Britain) led the Ospreys with 23 points and 10 rebounds for her third double-double of the season. Freshman Lauren Alwan (Winslow/Timber Creek) scored a career-high 16 points for Stockton.

Both Fagan and Alwan were named to the All-Tournament Team for their play during the weekend. Each player shot 6-11 (54.5%) from the floor against Amherst, but the rest of the Ospreys went just 5-24 (20.8%) combined.

The Lord Jeffs shot a blistering 54.5 percent during the first half while Stockton connected on just 26.1 percent of its shots and committed 15 turnovers. The Ospreys were within four at 14-10 after a layup by Oliver at the 11:38 mark but Amherst dominated the rest of the half, scoring 41 points in less than 12 minutes.

During one three-minute stretch, Amherst went 5-6 from three-point range while Stockton scored just three points on two free throws by Alwan and one by Fagan. The Lord Jeffs stretched their lead to an insurmountable 55-23 at the break. Fagan netted four points as the Ospreys began the second half on an 8-4 run, but the Lord Jeffs were able to maintain a comfortable lead and win the contest 95-64.
