Richard Stockton (16-12, 2-8 NJAC) suffered its fourth straight defeat as the Ospreys fell to third-ranked Kean (26-4, 9-1 NJAC) 6-4 in an NJAC makeup game.

Chris Wedding (Toms River/Toms River East) stroked three hits and knocked in three runs while Nick Scalise (Northfield/ Mainland) added two hits in the game.

The Cougars put up three runs in the top of the first inning for a quick 3-0 lead. Stockton broke through with a run in the bottom of the third. After Scalise singled and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt, Wedding scored him with a double to make it 3-1 game.

Kean tacked on single tallies in the fourth and sixth innings to up their lead to 5-1 before Stockton rallied in the eighth frame. Scalise singled, pinch-hitter Marc Asta (Jackson/ Jackson Memorial) singled and a balk advanced both runners. Jason Gordon (Brick/ Brick Memorial) walked to load the bases and Wedding delivered again, singling to score two runs. A Kean error allowed Gordon to score and the Cougars’ lead was trimmed to 5-4.

Kean added an insurance run in the top of the ninth on an error during a rundown to make the score 6-4. Shawn Kessler (Bayville/Central Regional) led off the bottom of the ninth with a single but the next three batters grounded out as the Ospreys were thwarted 6-4.
