Richard Stockton (7-5-1, 1-2-1 NJAC) headed north to face William Paterson (9-2-2, 3-1-1) in an NJAC makeup game that was postponed back to September 24 when rain flooded the Pioneers’ home field. Although the Ospreys took the early lead on a penalty kick by Pat Rafferty (Brick/Christian Brothers Academy), they fell 2-1 in overtime. Rafferty scored his team-leading eighth goal of the season with 22:25 gone in the match after William Paterson was whistled for a handball in the box. The marker came on Stockton’s only shot of the half and the Ospreys led 1-0 at the break. Stockton protected its slim lead until the 73:07 mark when Anthony Ferrer knotted the game for William Paterson on a header. The Pioneers, who outshot the Ospreys 24-4 in the match, also hit two posts in the second half, but Stockton held on for the 1-1 tie at the end of regulation. William Paterson needed just 1:41 of overtime before Dan Patton scored the game-winner to deal Stockton the 2-1 defeat. Ospreys’ goalkeeper Lou Herring (Freehold/Freehold) finished with five saves in the game. |
