STOCKTON OUTSCORES HOLLINS 86-82

Richard Stockton (2-1) won the consolation game of the McDaniel Tip-Off Tournament 86-82 over Hollins University (VA) (0-3).

Sophomore Lauren Alwan (Winslow/Timber Creek) led five double-digit scorers for Stockton with a career high 22 points. Aliyah Nelson (Pleasantville/St. Joseph) scored 16 points and was named to the All-Tournament Team.

Che’Na Thompson (Salem/Salem) also tossed in 16 points while Aspen Price-Perry (Lindenwold/ Lindenwold) and LaTonya Oliver (West Berlin/Overbrook) finished with 12 and 10 points respectively.Alwan and Oliver tied for game-high honors with nine rebounds apiece. The Ospreys shot 7-14 (50%) from three-point range and 15-17 (88.2%) at the free throw line.

Hollins dominated the first half while Stockton shot just 27 percent. The Ospreys trailed by as much as 22 points before closing the gap to 43-26 at the break. Stockton staged a furious second-half rally by outscoring Hollins 60-39 after intermission.

The Ospreys took their first lead of the game at 76-75 on a three-pointer by Thompson with 3:31 remaining in the game. After Hollins rallied to tie the game at 78, Nelson sank a clutch three-pointer with 2:18 on the clock that gave Stockton the lead for good at 81-78. The Ospreys went 5-6 at the line in the final 1:35 to clinch the 86-82 win.
