STOCKTON FALLS TO #24 WISCONSIN-STEVENS POINT 86-77

Richard Stockton (0-2) fell to 24th-ranked Wisconsin-Stevens Point (2-0) 86-77 in the first round of the White Rose City Classic at York College. Sophomore point guard Kevin Johnson (Paulsboro/Paulsboro) led the Ospreys with a career-high 24 points.

Bill McDonough (Spring Lake/St. Rose) and DiAndre Brown (Sicklerville/Camden Co. Tech) also reached double figures for Stockton with 16 and 12 points respectively. McDonough grabbed a team-high seven rebounds for the Ospreys.

Wisconsin-Stevens Point shot a blistering 62.5 percent in the first half, including 9-12 from three-point range. Stockton struggled to keep pace and trailed 45-30 at the break. The Ospreys’ deficit grew to 19 points at 53-34 early in the second half. Brown answered with a dunk, sparking a 23-8 run that got Stockton within 61-57 on a layup by Johnson with 7:12 remaining.

Freshman Jesse Hunt (Freehold/Freehold Boro) sank a three-pointer a minute later to pull the Ospreys within 65-62 but Wisconsin-Stevens Point put the game away with a 9-0 spurt as Stockton went scoreless for the next four minutes and could not complete the rally, falling 86-77.
