Richard Stockton (2-4) used a balanced attack to outscore Johnson & Wales (RI) (1-1) 92-83 in the Hampton Inn Classic at Western Connecticut.

Five Ospreys reached double figures, led by Bill McDonough (Spring Lake/St. Rose) with team highs of 25 points and 11 rebounds for a double-double.

Kevin Johnson (Paulsboro/Paulsboro) scored 16 points and Salman Yusuff (Vineland/Vineland) tossed in 15 points. Darnell McCargo (Woodlynne/Collingswood) and Rich Suhr (Toms River/TR East) came off the bench to contribute 12 and 11 points respectively. Suhr was a perfect 5-5 from the field.

Stockton blistered the nets with 61.3% shooting the first half (19-31). The Ospreys led by 11 on four occasions before settling for a 47-41 advantage at the break. Johnson & Wales tied the game twice in the second half before Stockton took the lead for good on a jumper by Johnson with 12:05 to play.

Johnson’s bucket ignited a game-clinching 14-2 run that gave Stockton a 74-60 advantage with 8:19 remaining. Although Johnson & Wales pulled within five at the 1:09 mark, the Ospreys finished strong. They shot 57.1% for the second half and 12-15 (80%) at the line to prevail 92-83.
