OLIVER SCORES 1,000TH POINT IN STOCKTON VICTORY |

Richard Stockton senior LaTonya Oliver (West Berlin/ Overbrook) reached the 1,000-point milestone and led the Ospreys (5-1) to a 77-62 victory over Southwestern University (TX) (3-2) with a double-double of 23 points and 12 boards. Che’Na Thompson (Salem/Salem) scored 20 points and dished a career-high seven assists for Stockton. Nancy White (Ocean City/Ocean City) also reached double figures with 10 points as Stockton recorded its fourth straight win. The game was played at Trinity University (TX). The Ospreys forced 26 turnovers and scored 35 points off those Southwestern miscues. Stockton also shot 20-22 (90.9%) at the free throw line, led by Thompson who was a perfect 12-12 from the stripe. Oliver entered the game with 989 points and hit the 1,000-point plateau on a layup 59 seconds into the second half. The senior center became the 10th women’s basketball player to score her 1,000th point in a Stockton uniform. After falling behind by eight in the first six minutes, the Ospreys unleashed a 24-6 run that resulted in a 34-24 lead. Freshman Brittany Muniz (Cherry Hill/CH East) scored all seven of her points during the spurt while Oliver and White each added six. Southwestern then tallied the last nine points of the half to pull within 34-33 at the break. Southwestern crept ahead 44-40 four minutes into the second half before Stockton took control of the game with a 15-1 run that put the Ospreys on top 55-45. This time Thompson led the charge with six points and Oliver contributed five. Stockton led by at least eight for the final 12:22 and posted its fourth straight win, 77-62. |
