STOCKTON FALLS TO UNBEATEN CATHOLIC 72-65

Richard Stockton (3-5) could not keep pace with the incredible three-point shooting of undefeated Catholic University (8-0) as the Cardinals remained perfect on the season with a 72-65 victory. Catholic shot a blistering 75% (15-20) from three-point range.

DiAndre Brown (Sicklerville/Camden Co. Tech) carried the Stockton offense with a career-high 29 points, including 20 in the first half. Brown was 10-13 from the floor, 4-5 on three-pointers, plus a perfect 5-5 from the line. Bill McDonough (Spring Lake/St. Rose) and Rich Suhr (Toms River/TR East) chipped in 10 points apiece for the Ospreys.

Steve Limberiou went 7-9 from beyond the arc and finished with a team-high 25 points for Catholic. Shawn Holmes shot a perfect 5-5 from three-point land and scored 18 points while Billy Donovan contributed 14 points for the Cardinals.

Catholic sank its first six shots, including two three-pointers by Limberiou, but Stockton went 6-9 in the opening minutes and only trailed 17-14 when the Cardinals finally missed their first attempt 7:16 into the game.

Catholic led by eight before Stockton closed the half with an 8-3 spurt to pull within 37-34 at the break. Brown capped the run with a three-pointer in the closing seconds that gave him 20 first-half points. Lamberiou answered with five treys for 15 points before intermission.

Brown and McDonough scored three points apiece as the Ospreys began the second stanza with an 8-0 run to take a 42-37 lead. Catholic quickly found its shooting form and outscored Stockton 23-7 in the next 10 minutes, led by Limberiou with seven points and Donovan with five to spark the Cardinals to a 60-49 advantage.

Another three-pointer by Limberiou later gave Catholic its biggest lead at 66-53 with 5:02 to play. Ibn Moye (Toms River/Central Regional) led Stockton’s charge back with two three-pointers during an 11-2 spurt that cut the Catholic lead to 68-64 at the 2:06 mark. The Ospreys’ comeback stalled as they went scoreless for the next 1:51. The Cardinals scored four points in the last 13 seconds to seal their eighth straight win, 72-65.
