||
Richard Stockton (13-9) halted a five-game losing streak and put its name in the NCAA record book with a 90-79 win over Brooklyn College (16-6) in overtime. The Ospreys set an NCAA record with 47 made free throws as they went 47-60 (78.3%) at the line to break the old high of 46 free throws by Elizabethtown in 1993. Stockton also tied the NCAA mark by scoring 23 points in overtime. Aliyah Nelson (Pleasantville/St. Joseph) led the Ospreys with a career-high 22 points. Nelson went 17-18 at the free throw line in the game. Four additional Ospreys reached double figures, including two double-doubles. LaTonya Oliver (West Berlin/Overbrook) tallied 14 points and 14 rebounds while Che'Na Thompson (Salem/Salem) notched 14 points and 10 boards. Brittany Muniz (Cherry Hill/CH East) scored 12 points and Lauren Alwan (Winslow/Timber Creek) tossed in 10. Alwan sank two layups as Stockton began OT with a 9-2 run to take the lead for good. In the final 1:36, Nelson went 7-8 at the line and Muniz was a perfect 4-4 as the Ospreys pulled away for the 90-76 triumph. Overall, Stockton shot 4-5 from the floor and 14-16 from the stripe in overtime. Oliver dominated the first four minutes of the game, scoring nine points to spark the Ospreys to a 10-2 lead that was the largest of regulation for either team. Stockton led 32-31 at the break behind Oliver’s perfect shooting (4-4 FG, 1-1 FT). After falling behind by five in the second half, the Ospreys clawed back and led 60-54 after Nelson hit two free throws with 4:05 to play. Brooklyn rallied to force overtime by outscoring Stockton 13-7 in the last four minutes. |
