Middlebury 61, Stockton 58

Richard Stockton (3-1) suffered its first loss of the season, 61-58 to unbeaten Middlebury (4-0) in the first round of the Manhattanville Castle Classic.  Michael Farrow (Whitesboro/Middle Twp.) led the Ospreys with a game-high 15 points and Jerome Hubbard (Neptune/Neptune) added 12 points.  Omar Smith (Newark/Central) finished with 11 points and a career-high nine rebounds while Santini Lancioni (Runnemede/Paul VI) netted 11 points.

Farrow sank two early layups to help Stockton build a 15-6 lead in the first 10 minutes but Middlebury responded with a 12-1 run and pulled ahead 18-16.  The Panthers later closed the first half with a 7-1 spurt and led 28-22 at the break.   Farrow paced Stockton with eight first-half points and Hubbard contributed five points.

After falling behind by 13 points in the second half, Stockton roared back to take a 44-43 lead on a jumper by Smith with 7:42 remaining.  Middlebury then outscored the Ospreys 16-6 over the next 4:38 for a 59-50 advantage with 3:04 on the clock.  Hubbard tallied five consecutive points followed by a three-pointer from Lancioni that brought Stockton within 59-58 with 1:19 to play but the Ospreys did not score again and suffered their first defeat, 61-58.
