Sixth-ranked Richard Stockton (28-2) advanced to the NCAA Tournament sectional final with a 71-68 triumph over St. Lawrence (22-7). Jerome Hubbard (Neptune/Neptune) led a quartet of double-digit scorers with 19 points, followed by Santini Lancioni (Runnemede/Paul VI) with 17 points. Omar Smith (Newark/Central) and Michael Farrow (Whiteside/Middle Twp.) contributed 16 and 11 points respectively. The Ospreys shot 17-22 (77.3%) at the free throw line in the game.

Stockton opened up an 18-point lead with eight minutes remaining and staved off a furious St. Lawrence rally to earn its 16th consecutive win and advance to the NCAA quarterfinals for the first time since 1999. Smith scored nine points during a 16-3 run that gave Stockton a 62-44 lead with 8:08 remaining. St. Lawrence then scored 11 consecutive points to pull within 62-55 before Lancioni hit two free throws. The Saints continued to close the gap and got as close as 69-68 after a basket with 52 seconds to play.

Stockton ran the time down and missed a shot with 20 seconds remaining, but Smith grabbed the offensive rebound and Hubbard was fouled with 17 ticks left. Hubbard made two free throws for a 71-68 advantage and St. Lawrence missed a last-second three-pointer as the Ospreys held on for the three-point win.
