DODD, CONNELL, HORNER AND AFFLITTO VOTED NJAC ALL-CONFERENCE |

Four Richard Stockton softball players were named to the NJAC All-Conference Team, which was announced today by league commissioner Terry Small. Junior 1B Kelly Dodd (Linwood/ Mainland) was selected to the NJAC First Team and senior CF Lindsay Connell (Rahway/Rahway) was voted to the NJAC Second Team. Senior SS Samantha Horner (Newfield/Buena) and freshman 3B Joey Afflitto (Brick/Brick) were named NJAC Honorable Mention. Dodd is batting .333 with team highs of 33 RBI and four home runs plus nine doubles and 12 runs . The cleanup hitter is tied for the NJAC lead in RBI, tied for third in home runs, tied for seventh in doubles, and seventh in slugging percentage (.573). Dodd has made just four errors in 187 chances on defense for a lofty .979 fielding percentage. She was named the NJAC Player of the Week on March 30 and earned her first all-conference honor. Connell has played in 35 games and started 34 for the Ospreys, who ended the regular season with a 25-13 record. She is hitting .354 with seven doubles, three triples and two home runs as well as 20 runs scored and 19 RBI. Connell is tied for third in the league in triples and ninth in slugging percentage (.552). She also posted a .976 fielding percentage with only one error in 41 chances on her way to her first NJAC all-conference nod. Horner, a 2008 NJAC Second Team selection, ranks sixth or higher in the league in eight categories, highlighted by her NJAC-leading totals of 44 runs and 26 stolen bases. She also stands second in batting (.461), third in on-base percentage (.484), hits (53) and RBI (30), fifth in slugging percentage (.583) and sixth in doubles (10). Horner will conclude her outstanding career as Stockton’s all-time leader in hits, runs, triples, stolen bases and at-bats. Afflitto, one of the top newcomers in the league, leads the NJAC in slugging percentage (.702) and triples (9). The rookie also ranks among the conference leaders in runs (31; fourth), hits (51; fourth), batting average (.411; fifth), on-base percentage (.460; sixth), stolen bases (14; tied-sixth), doubles (9; tied-seventh) and RBI (23; tied-eighth). Afflitto was named the NJAC Rookie of the Week on March 23. |
