Richard Stockton senior shortstop Samantha Horner (Newfield/ Buena) was named the NJAC Player of the Week while freshman third baseman Joey Afflitto (Brick/Brick) was chosen the NJAC Rookie of the Week for the second time this season. Horner and Afflitto led the Ospreys to a third-place finish in the ECAC Metro tournament last week.

Afflitto batted .471 (8-17) and scored nine runs in Stockton’s four ECAC tournament games. The rookie hit safely in all four games to finish the season with an 11-game hitting streak. Afflitto registered three multi-hit games, including a 3-5 effort with four runs scored in an 11-4 victory over Kean on Saturday.

Horner batted .417 (5-12) with six RBI and three runs in the last four games of her career. On Saturday, the senior went 2-3 with a walk against Montclair State and then 2-4 with three RBI, two stolen bases and two runs in the victory over Kean. Earlier in the week, Horner ripped a two-run triple that broke a scoreless tie with Old Westbury and sparked the Ospreys to a 5-0 win.

Horner was named to the NFCA East Region First Team and Afflitto earned NFCA East Region Second Team honors. Both players also were selected NJAC All-Conference Honorable Mention. Horner batted .457 on the season, set a school record with 47 runs and finished as Stockton’s all-time leader in at-bats, hits, runs, triples and stolen bases. Afflitto hit .418 and set school records for at-bats (141), hits (59) and triples (9) during her rookie year.
