SCOTT FISHER CHOSEN AS ECAC METRO ALL-STAR

Richard Stockton senior Scott Fisher (Toms River/TR East) was named an ECAC Metro Baseball All-Star by the Eastern College Athletic Conference. Fisher was selected as a utility player after seeing action at pitcher, first base and designated hitter for Stockton, which finished the 2009 season with a 15-17 record. He started all 32 games for the Ospreys and led the team in almost every major offensive and pitching category.

Fisher topped the NJAC in slugging percentage (.876) and tied for the league lead in home runs while also setting a school record (12). In addition, the left-handed batter finished second in the conference in hitting (.446) and on-base percentage (.542) as well as sixth in RBI (47) and tied for sixth in doubles, where he set another school-record (16). Fisher also was seventh in the nation in slugging percentage and ninth in home runs per game (0.38).

Fisher pitched a team-high 45.1 innings in seven starts on the mound. The right-handed hurler went 3-3 and led Stockton with a 3.97 ERA and 48 strikeouts, a total that tied him for sixth in the NJAC. Fisher carried the Ospreys to their biggest victory of the season on March 20 when he fanned seven in eight innings pitched and went 3-4 with two doubles, a home run and five RBI as Stockton upset No. 2 Salisbury 10-8 in Cocoa Beach.

Fisher’s selection as an ECAC Metro All-Star adds to a lengthy list of postseason honors that was highlighted by his selection to the ABCA/Rawlings Mid-Atlantic Region First Team for the second consecutive year. Fisher also was named to the NJAC All-Conference First Team and chosen to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America First Team and ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District II First Team for his work in the classroom.

After transferring from Seton Hall, Fisher left an indelible mark on Stockton baseball in just two seasons. The senior became the program’s first All-American in 2008 and first Academic All-American this year. Fisher also slugged 19 home runs in an Osprey uniform to end his career as Stockton’s all-time leader.
