ABAD AKHTAR NAMED NJAC MEN’S RUNNER OF THE WEEK |
Richard Stockton junior Abad Akhtar (Atlantic City/Atlantic City) was named the initial NJAC Men’s Cross Country Runner of the Week for the 2009 season. On Saturday, Akhtar cruised to victory in the Delaware Valley Invitational with a winning time of 27:03 for eight kilometers. He finished 28 seconds ahead of the second-place runner and won a race that included 160 entrants. Akhtar led the Ospreys to third place out of 17 teams at the meet.
Akhtar won for the fifth time in his cross country career at Stockton. The junior posted three victories as a freshman and won the Osprey Open last year in his final race of 2008 before his sophomore season was halted by a leg injury. A four-time NJAC Rookie of the Week in 2007, Akhtar earned the NJAC Runner of the Week honor for the first time. He also competes in the distance events for the Stockton men’s track & field team in the winter and spring. |
