VELOTT, WARNER & DORRIS EARN NJAC WEEKLY AWARDS

Richard Stockton sophomore Christine Velott (Moorestown/ Moorestown) was named the NJAC Volleyball Player of the Week for the third consecutive time and fourth time this season. Freshman Stephanie Warner (Totowa/Passaic Valley) was chosen the NJAC Volleyball Rookie of the Week while goalkeeper Maria Dorris (Mantua/Clearview) was selected the NJAC Women’s Soccer Rookie of the Week.

Velott and Warner led Stockton (27-11) to its second straight NJAC volleyball championship and third in four years. Velott tallied match highs of 13 kills in the league semifinal win over Ramapo on November 5 and 16 kills in the NJAC title match victory over Montclair State on Saturday. Velott, a 2009 NJAC All-Conference First Team selection, currently ranks second in the league in kills (3.55 kpg).

Warner notched four kills and two blocks in the triumph over Ramapo, followed by eight kills and three blocks in the NJAC championship win over Montclair. The freshman middle hitter ranks second in the league in hitting percentage (.353), sixth in blocks (0.61 bpg) and eighth in service aces (0.49 sapg). Warner also was named to the NJAC First Team this year. Stockton will play Haverford on Thursday in the first round of the NCAA Tournament at Juniata.

Dorris earned her second NJAC Rookie of the Week award with two shutouts in the NJAC tournament. The freshman goalie made nine saves as Stockton upset fourth-ranked Rowan 1-0 in the NJAC semifinals on November 3. Dorris then registered a career-high 12 saves as the Ospreys tied College of New Jersey 0-0 in the NJAC championship game, although TCNJ won the league title on penalty kicks.

Dorris has posted three consecutive shutouts, and she has not allowed a goal in the last 320 minutes. Stockton (14-6-2) will put its shutout streak on the line when it faces Wheaton (MA) in the first round of the NCAA Tournament, at Middlebury (VT) on Saturday. The Ospreys earned their fourth consecutive at-large NCAA berth.
