The Marine Science and Environmental Field Station is a facility of the School of Natural Sciences and Mathetics at the Richard Stockton College of NJ. The Field Station is used as a teaching and research destination for numerous NAMS' academic programs, including marine science, biology, environmental studies, geology, and the professional science masters program.
Summer research has been wrapped up and we are now busy with the Fall field schedule in support of several courses - Introduction to Marine Biology (2 sections), Ichthyology, Sediments and Stratigraphy, Marine Chemistry, Molecular Biology, Environmental Pollution and continuing undergraduate research.
We are looking forward to welcoming the new class of freshmen and transfer students and toward several pending research awards that will set the stage for undergraduate research over the next two years.
Summer 2011 research focused primarily on continuing ROV operations on artificial reef habitats, monitoring Submerged Aquatic Vegetation beds in Barnegat Bay and preparing for research grant proposals in these areas as well as in the area of marine debris identification and removal in the estuary. In every phase of faculty research at the Field Station there is a team of undergraduates involved - from offshore work utilizing advanced underwater survey instruments to snorkeling in the bay to conduct seagrass surveys.
