SCOSA Festival, Stockton Retiree Breakfast: Great Sessions, Turn-Out and Weather!
An enjoyable day was had by all at SCOSA’s Annual Festival on Thursday May 19th.  Click here and here to view all photos or on the other hyperlinks below. The exhibit hall, featuring 30 exhibitors, opened at 9am. Sessions started at 9:30 and included a wide variety of enjoyable activities. Highlights included a packed house for the early session on Physical Activity and Mental Well-being (the Pickleball crowd), President Kesselman’s informative presentation, a panel on the importance of hobbies in retirement, some fantastic displays of art, readings of prose and poetry, and informative exhibits from Dr. Kim Furphy’s Masters in Occupational Therapy class on technologies and safety in the home. Yoga, meditation, a walk around Lake Fred, a presentation about Peace Pilgrim’s walk for world peace, and so much more made this an enjoyable and informative day.  The Stockton Faculty Band and Jammonton on Main provided musical entertainment and helped to raise funds for the Student SFT Scholarship. Thanks to all of our sponsors, exhibitors, volunteers, presenters, and guests!
Early in the day, SCOSA and Stockton’s Office of Human Resources co-sponsored a breakfast meeting of the new Stockton University Retirees Association (SURA) at which the first officers of the association were elected.  Peg Fiore (Stockton Foundation - Development) and Kathy Franzeses (Human Resources) will serve as SURA Co-Chairs; Diana Meischker (Performing Arts Center) will serve as SURA Secretary/Treasurer. SCOSA looks forward to our continued working relationship with SURA and HR in sponsoring programs for and with Stockton’s growing number of retirees.

SURA, SCOSA, HR and the Stockton Center for Community Engagement collaborated to collect 275 items and about 280 pounds of non-perishable food at SCOSA’s registration desk. Thanks to Askhia Khawaja, SCCE Student Fellow for coordinating SCOSA Volunteers and members of Professor Kim Furphy’s Occupational Therapy class in sorting and packaging the food, for delivery by Stockton Plant Management staff to the St. Vincent DePaul Society Food Pantry at Assumption Roman Catholic Church in Galloway. The pantry was empty, so our timing was perfect! Collecting food is a natural extension of the university's mission to serve, so we thank everyone for their contributions.
