Study Abroad: Scholarships

The cost of studying abroad can sometimes be hectic and worrisome.  That's why, as part of a push to encourage and afford the amazing benefits of studying abroad to our students, Stockton University has started a Study Abroad Scholarship Program.  This program offers several different ways for students to earn a scholarship based on different criteria.
Stockton Study Abroad Scholarship
Merit Based Scholarships
a. Students will be assessed based on GPA.
b. Students must complete the Scholarship application
c. Students must complete an application essay demonstrating why they are studying abroad, their need, and what the scholarship would mean to them
Need Based Grants
a. Students must demonstrate current financial dependency on loans, grants, aid, etc.
b. Students must complete the Scholarship application
c. Students must complete an application essay demonstrating why they are studying abroad, their need, and what the scholarship would mean to them

Matching-Based Funds
a. Students who are not eligible, or did not receive funding, under the previous two awards are eligible
b. Students must complete the Scholarship application
c. Students must complete an application essay demonstrating why they are studying abroad, their need, and what the scholarship would mean to them


Application 
The application is built into the online study abroad application.  You will be required to provide proof of GPA, your Stockton's Z number, proof of your financial aid package, and an essay demonstrating what a scholarship means to you, your willingness to being involved post return, why you want a scholarship, and demonstrating why you may need a scholarship.

Process
1. Complete the scholarship application.
2. Provide your FAFSA information from the Financial Aid office, if applicable.*
3. Complete an essay demonstrating their financial need for a scholarship, why they are studying abroad, and what the scholarship would mean to them.**

*FAFSA information is required for several of the available scholarships.
**Essays from the general study abroad application cannot be used because members of the selection committee will not see them.

The deadlines for the Study Abroad scholarships:
Spring Study Abroad: Rolling-the 2nd Friday of November
Summer Study Abroad: Rolling-the 2nd Friday of March
Fall Study Abroad: Rolling-the 2nd Friday of March
Faculty-Led Program: Applications must be received no later than four weeks prior to departure date

Provider & Federal Scholarships

CEA scholarships are open to all CEA program participants who meet the eligibility requirements; their objective is to aid students in subsidizing the cost of their study abroad program.

  At CISabroad, we want to make sure study abroad is affordable for you. Our program prices are some of the lowest you’ll find and we also offer study abroad scholarships and financial aid counseling. We'll help you study or intern abroad without breaking the bank!

  This is a list of scholarships and grants offered to students participating in one or more ISA program. Please see each scholarship description for eligibility requirements, application materials and required documents. Students selected for awards will be notified approximately six weeks after the scholarship application deadline, and a list of awardees will be posted on the ISA website.

To be eligible, students do not necessarily need to qualify for standard forms of financial aid (such as Pell Grants) on their home campuses. Applicants are strongly encouraged to file the FAFSA and submit the Student Aid Report to ISE along with tax returns from the most recent tax year and any supplemental information that might be helpful in our review.

The Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship Program offers grants for U.S. citizen undergraduate students of limited financial means to pursue academic studies or credit-bearing, career-oriented internships abroad. Such international exchange is intended to better prepare U.S. students to assume significant roles in an increasingly global economy and interdependent world.

Boren Scholarships, an initiative of the National Security Education Program, provide unique funding opportunities for U.S. undergraduate students to study less commonly taught languages in world regions critical to U.S. interests, and underrepresented in study abroad, including Africa, Asia, Central and Eastern Europe, Eurasia, Latin America, and the Middle East. The countries of Western Europe, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand are excluded.
