State Health Benefits and Annual Health Benefit Open Enrollment
The Open Enrollment Period for New Jersey State Health Benefits is held once each year usually between
October and November. Traditionally, the state holds open enrollment during the month of October with all changes becoming effective January 1 of each year. Employees who wish to make changes to their health benefit plans and/or drop or add coverage for family members, can do so during the annual open enrollment period. Changes made during this time will become effective January 1 of the new year.
Employees who have a change in status or qualifying life event (marriage, birth, adoption, death, etc.) have 60 days from the date of the event to add or delete coverage for eligible dependents.
