Akhtar Qualifies for NCAA Championships

Richard Stockton junior Abad Akhtar (Brigantine/Atlantic City) qualified for the NCAA Cross Country Championships by placing 16th (25:36.50) out of 264 runners at the NCAA Atlantic Regionals hosted by SUNY Geneseo. Akhtar became the second Stockton runner ever to qualify for the NCAA Championships and first since Randy Wetzel in 2002. The Stockton women’s team placed 18th out of 33 squads while the Stockton men’s team finished 26th out of 38 squads.

Meredith Malloy (Hamilton/Hamilton West) was the top female for Stockton, placing 71st (24:02.30) out of 239 entrants. Robyn Evangelist (Northfield/Mainland) followed in 92nd place (24:36.90) while Jim Codianni (Medford/Shawnee) was the second Stockton men’s finisher in 117th place overall (27:48.90). The meet was the final one of the season for all of the Ospreys except Akhtar, who will compete in the NCAA Championships at Baldwin-Wallace (OH) on Saturday, November 21.
