Richard Stockton (14-7-2) was ousted from the NCAA Tournament with a 2-0 loss to Wheaton (MA) (18-3-2) in a first-round game at Middlebury College (VT). Stockton goalkeeper Maria Dorris (Mantua/Clearview) registered three saves in the match, which was played in rainy and sloppy conditions. The Ospreys were shut out for the second consecutive time and sixth game this season.

Wheaton took the early lead with a goal just 5:22 into the match, snapping shutout streaks of 325 minutes for Dorris individually and Stockton as a team. The Ospreys began applying more offensive pressure in the latter part of the first half but could not break through. Leah Pocoroba (Galloway/Holy Spirit) narrowly missed getting to a long pass that the Wheaton goalie grabbed just in time and Shelley Gibney (Shamong/Seneca) almost tied the score on a 10-yard shot that sailed a little high.

Wheaton added another tally 3:59 into the second half for a 2-0 edge and managed to preserve the shutout. Amanda Altman (Beachwood/Toms River South) recorded Stockton’s final quality scoring chance with 13:30 remaining when she headed a free kick on net but was denied by the Wheaton goalie. The 2-0 defeat ended Stockton’s season, which included a fourth consecutive NCAA Tournament berth, with a 14-7-2 record.
