Richard Stockton (1-1) had no answers for Plattsburgh State’s (5-1) quick-strike offense and dropped its first match of the season 22-11. Brendan McCarthy (Howell/Howell) and Brent Effenberger (Toms River/Msgr. Donovan) each scored a hat trick for Stockton. Mike Velez (Barnegat/Barnegat) added two goals and three assists. Stockton starting goalkeeper Pete Marcelliano (Morristown/West Morris Mendham) kicked out 14 shots in 46 minutes played for the Ospreys.

The Cardinals scored three goals in a 31-second span of the first period and raced out to a 6-0 lead before Josh Dybus (Lyndhurst/St. Peter’s Prep) finally got Stockton on the board five minutes into the second quarter. After trailing by as much as 10 goals, Stockton closed to within 13-7 on a tally by Effenberger 30 seconds into the fourth quarter. Plattsburgh State then outscored the Ospreys 9-4 the rest of the way and doubled up Stockton 22-11.
