ECAC Metro Tournament:
Stockton 12, FDU-Florham 11 (10 innings)

Richard Stockton (22-19) rallied from a nine-run deficit and won the 2010 ECAC Metro championship with a 12-11 triumph over FDU-Florham (33-11) in 10 innings. Freshman Barry Larro (Cedarville/Cumberland) went 3-6 with three RBI and was named the tournament’s Most Outstanding Player. Dan McGuckin (Sicklerville/Winslow Twp.) was 2-5 with four RBI for the Ospreys.

FDU-Florham scored two runs in the first inning and eight more in the second frame for a commanding 10-1 lead. Stockton’s comeback began with a two-run single by McGuckin in the fourth inning that made the score 10-3. The Ospreys then scored six runs on six hits in the seventh frame to pull within 10-9. Larro delivered the key blow with a two-run single and McGuckin added another RBI on a groundout.

FDU-Florham extended its lead to 11-9 with a run in the bottom of the seventh but Stockton rallied with two runs in the top of the ninth for an 11-11 tie. Larro stroked an RBI double and then scored the tying run when McGuckin followed with an RBI single.

The Ospreys scored the game-winning run in the top of the 10th inning as Matt Allen (Salem/Woodstown), Stockton’s all-time RBI leader (115), singled home Chris Discher (Cherry Hill/CH West) for a 12-11 lead. Stockton pitcher John Lightbody (Toms River/TR East) set FDU-Florham down in order in the bottom half of the inning to clinch Stockton’s third ECAC championship (2005, 2007, 2010).
