Kyle Evans (Seaville/Ocean City) scored a late goal to lift Richard Stockton (2-0) to a 1-0 victory over Virginia Wesleyan (0-2) in the opener of the Christopher Newport University Alumni Classic. Stockton goalkeeper Lou Herring (Freehold/ Freehold) made four saves for his first shutout of the season. The Ospreys were outshot 16-6 but earned the victory on Evans’ second-half goal.

The teams played over 79 scoreless minutes before Evans scored the game-winner on a long shot into the top right corner with just 10:41 remaining in the game. George Hamilton (Medford/Shawnee) assisted on the scoring play and Stockton protected its lead down the stretch for the 1-0 victory.
