Stockton Wins Three of Four at Moravian

Richard Stockton (3-1) opened the season with three victories in four tries at the Moravian Greyhound Classic and setter Laura Hausman (Bethlehem, PA/Catasauqua) was named to the All-Tournament Team.. Head coach Allison Walker earned her 100th career victory as the Ospreys began with a 25-18, 25-11, 25-12 sweep of Ursinus. The Ospreys then topped Cabrini 25-19, 25-16, 25-17 to bring Walker’s record to 101-48 in her fifth season.

Christine Velott (Moorestown/Moorestown), a 2009 NJAC First Team selection, led the Ospreys with 14 kills and 13 digs against Ursinus followed by 12 kills and 12 digs versus Cabrini. 2009 NJAC Second Team setter Hausman tallied 17 assists in the first match plus 34 assists and 12 digs in the second contest. Christine Astarita (Selden, NY/Newfield), an NJAC Honorable Mention player last year, notched 11 digs versus Ursinus and 16 digs against Cabrini.

Playing in the championship bracket, Stockton split two five-set matches on the second day of the tournament. The Ospreys were edged by Moravian 21-25, 25-20, 14-25, 25-18, 15-10 but they rebounded with a 22-25, 25-14, 25-20, 18-25, 15-9 triumph over Swarthmore to finish the weekend with three victories in four matches.

Against Moravian, Hausman tallied a career-high 45 assists and 17 digs while Velott notched 12 kills and 22 digs. Stephanie Warner (Totowa/Passaic Valley) added eight kills and eight blocks in the match. Hausman followed with 44 assists and 16 digs to propel the Ospreys to victory over Swarthmore. Velott added 11 kills and 18 digs while Warner contributed 12 kills and four blocks.
