John's Hopkins 3, Stockton 2 (OT)

Richard Stockton (14-6-2) was eliminated from the NCAA Tournament with a 3-2 overtime defeat to Johns Hopkins (14-3-4) in an NCAA first round game at Christopher Newport University (VA). Kyle Evans (Seaville/Ocean City) led the Ospreys with a goal and an assist. Rafael Duarte (Ocean City/ Ocean City) also netted a goal for Stockton, which was making its 11th NCAA Tournament appearance in school history.

Duarte scored his team-leading 15th goal of the season at 22:31 with an assist by Evans to give Stockton a 1-0 lead. Johns Hopkins struck back with 3:54 left in the first half, and the match was tied 1-1 at the break. In the second half, the Ospreys quickly went ahead 2-1 as Evans booted his 10th goal of the season on a free kick just 2:21 into the period. The Stockton lead held up until 72:50 when John's Hopkins scored the game-tying goal to pull the Blue Jays into a 2-2 deadlock.

The Ospreys nearly won the game in the final minute on a header by Sal Pistone (Blackwood/Highland) that was knocked away by a Johns Hopkins defender with just 26 seconds left in regulation. The Blue Jays outshot Stockton 4-0 in overtime and Ospreys’ goalie Tim Brett (Palmyra/ Palmyra) made two of his six saves to extend the match before Johns Hopkins scored at 96:37 and eliminated Stockton from the NCAA Tournament, 3-2.

Duarte finished his four-year career ranked second all-time at Stockton in goals (55) and third in points (122). The match also was the final one for four-year letter winners Sean Nelson (Toms River/TR South), George Hamilton (Medford/Shawnee), Harry Middleton (Voorhees/Eastern) and Travis Albert (Voorhees/Eastern) plus fellow seniors Evans and Rich Stone (Mullica Hill/St. Augustine).
