Richard Stockton (1-3) opened up a five-goal lead and held on for its first victory of the season, 10-9 over University of New England (2-3).

Brent Effenberger (Toms River/Msgr. Donovan) led the Stockton offense with four goals and Matt Bologno (Glen Gardner/Voorhees) added three goals and an assist. Osprey goalkeeper Tim Wolcott (Toms River/TR North) was outstanding, finishing with a career-high 18 saves.

The Ospreys snapped a 3-3 tie with five straight goals for an 8-3 lead early in the third quarter. Bologno netted the last two markers of the scoring spree and Drew Wright (Wallingford/Strath Haven) added a goal and an assist during the outburst. Later, Effenberger scored with 4:58 left in the third period to put Stockton ahead 9-4.

University of New England stormed back with four straight tallies, closing the gap to 9-8 with 9:31 remaining. Effenberger struck again to boost the margin to two goals with 6:06 to play, but UNE responded just 15 seconds later to get within 10-9 at the 5:51 mark. The Stockton defense held strong from there for the team’s first win of the season, including one final save by Wolcott with 1:08 on the clock to preserve the 10-9 victory.
