Richard Stockton (1-8, 0-1) played its first Skyline Conference game of the season and fell short against SUNY Maritime (5-6, 1-0) 12-9.

Brent Effenberger (Toms River/Msgr. Donovan) led the Ospreys with three goals while Matt Bologno (Glen Gardner/ Voorhees) and Drew Flagler (Califon/Voorhees) added two goals apiece.

Bologno and David Soule (Kinnelon/Kinnelon) each scored in the first three minutes as Stockton jumped out to a 2-0 lead. Maritime responded with four straight goals for a 4-2 advantage with 1:15 gone in the second quarter.

Effenberger sandwiched his first two tallies around a Maritime goal to bring the Ospreys within 5-4 and Bologno followed with his second of the game to tie the match. Maritime beat the clock, scoring with just six seconds left in the half for a 6-5 edge.

The Privateers broke out to a 10-6 lead late in the third quarter, but Stockton rallied with goals by Wade Veselka (Chesterfield/Northern Burlington), Effenberger and Flagler to make the score 10-9 with 8:42 left in the game.

The Ospreys were unable to complete the rally though, as they went scoreless for the rest of the game. Maritime netted two insurance goals in the last four minutes for the 12-9 final score. Stockton goalie Tim Wolcott (Toms River/TR North) finished with 12 saves.
