||
Richard Stockton (1-0) opened the 2011 season in fine fashion as they downed Arcadia (0-1) 3-1 on Thursday evening. The Ospreys broke open a tie game with two second-half goals to seal the victory. The Knights opened the scoring as Marilyn Beatty scored on an assist from Ashley Ditchey to give Arcadia a 1-0 lead just 6:15 into the match. Stockton’s record-setting sophomore Susie Balidemaj (Hamilton/Hamilton East) tied the game on a nice feed from Nancy White (Ocean City/Ocean City) at 27:24 and the score was knotted at one apiece at the half. Jenny Carpenter (Egg Harbor City/Absegami) gave Stockton the lead for good just 2:58 into the second half as she scored after a loose ball in front of the Knights net. Megan Irving (Oaklyn/Collingswood) took the initial shot that found its way to Carpenter. Nikki Moore (Island Heights/Central Regional) gave Stockton an insurance tally on a penalty stroke just over 10 minutes later to set the 3-1 final score. Freshman goalie Liz Stankiewicz (Freehold Twp. /Freehold Twp.) earned her first career win in net for the Ospreys as she made six saves in her college debut. Sarah Baumgardner kicked out two shots for Arcadia. |
