Sal Pistone

Boxscore

Richard Stockton (1-1) suffered its first loss of the season, falling to tournament-host Roanoke 3-1 in the first round of the Roanoke Invitational. Sal Pistone (Blackwood/Highland) scored a late goal for Stockton. Ospreys’ goalkeepers Lou Herring (Freehold/Freehold) and Tim Brett (Palmyra/Palmyra) each played a half and made one save apiece.

Roanoke took the lead on a goal by Johnny Hughes at 22:31 and doubled the advantage to 2-0 when Christopher Fisher scored eight-and-a-half minutes later.

The Maroons led by two at the break and needed just 24 seconds after the start of the second half to strike again as Jake Shorr hit the back of the net for a 3-0 score.

Stockton averted the shutout as Pistone scored with an assist by Randy Kohr (Upper Twp./ Ocean City) with just 2:47 remaining in the game. Despite the late tally, the Ospreys, who headed right to Virginia after a 3-2 overtime win at Neumann less than 24 hours earlier, fell to Roanoke 3-1.
