STOCKTON SPLITS AT CORTLAND TOURNAMENT

Richard Stockton (3-1) split two matches on the first day of the Red Dragon Classic at SUNY Cortland. The Ospreys fell to tournament-host Cortland in four sets 25-21, 25-15, 15-25, 25-17. Stockton then bounced back and defeated Buffalo State in four sets 25-14, 23-25, 25-12, 25-16. Nicole Serekian (Mahwah/Mahwah), the 2010 NJAC Rookie of the Year, led the Ospreys with two-match totals of 33 kills and 23 digs.

Serekian tallied a career-high 20 kills plus 11 digs against Cortland. Freshman Ashley Gubista (Massapequa, NY/ Massapequa) led the Stockton defense with 20 digs, followed by Nicole Ober (Cherry Hill/CH East) with 13 digs. Cortland is listed among the “Others Receiving Votes” for the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Division III national poll.

Serekian paced the Ospreys to the victory over Buffalo State with a team-high 13 kills plus 12 digs. For the second straight match, Gubista and Ober sparked the Stockton defense with 20 and 13 kills respectively. With the win, Stockton earned second place in three-team Pool A of the 12-team tournament and moved on to the Gold Bracket.
