STOCKTON SWEEPS IN HOME OPENER

Richard Stockton (5-2) won its home opener with a sweep of Mount St. Mary (NY) (0-5) in three close sets. The scores were 25-20, 25-21, 25-23. Christine Velott (Moorestown/ Moorestown) led the Ospreys with 14 kills and Kasey Hennecke (Fair Lawn/Fair Lawn) added a career-high 13 kills.

Laura Hausman (Bethlehem, PA/Catasauqua) dished 20 assists and Ashley Gubista (Massapequa, NY/ Massapequa) led the Stockton defense with 16 digs. Mary Ann Raftery paced Mount St. Mary with 10 kills while Lauren Halverson handed out a match-high 27 assists.

Velott sparked Stockton to the 25-20 win in the opening set with five kills and one ace. Hennecke and Velott led a balanced attack with three kills apiece in the second set, which the Ospreys won 25-21. The pair of outside hitters did their best work in the third set as they each smashed six kills and Stockton edged the Knights 25-23 to close out the match.
