Sara Shaughnessy

Boxscore

Richard Stockton (4-1-1) suffered its first loss of the season as the Ospreys fell to 2010 Capital Athletic Conference champion Stevenson (3-1-1) 3-1. The defeat ended Stockton’s five-game unbeaten streak (4-0-1) to open the year.

Sara Shaughnessy (Farmingdale/Howell) scored the lone goal for the Ospreys, who were playing their sixth consecutive road game.

Shaughnessy found an opening in the Stevenson defense and scored from six-yards out to give Stockton a 1-0 lead 31 minutes into the match. The marker was the first at Stockton for Shaughnessy, a junior who joined the team this year as a transfer.

In the second half, Stevenson tied the match on a goal by Brandy Foehrkolb at 52:04 that was the first tally that Stockton had allowed in 369 minutes. The Mustangs took a 2-1 lead when Stephanie Eyler scored at 69:28. The Ospreys nearly leveled the game in the 73rd minute, but Bridget Connelly’s (Deptford/Deptford) penalty kick glanced off the crossbar.

Stevenson added an insurance goal by Amanda Marston with 8:18 remaining for the 3-1 final. Stockton goalkeeper Sarah Hinkle (Mullica Hill/Paul VI) made three saves but saw her personal shutout streak end at 354 minutes.
