Pat Rafferty

Boxscore

Pat Rafferty (Brick/Christian Brothers Academy) scored a penalty kick with 30 seconds remaining in double overtime to give Richard Stockton (5-1) a 1-0 victory over NYU (1-3-1). The penalty kick was awarded for a handball against the Violets in the box. The Ospreys posted their fourth consecutive shutout victory.

Stockton goalkeeper Tim Brett (Palmyra/Palmyra) recorded his third whitewash of the season with five saves. Brett has not allowed a goal in his last 348:30 between the posts. NYU goalkeeper Jonah Poster finished with four saves.

Each team controlled the play for one half during regulation. Stockton outshot NYU 10-2 the first stanza and registered the two best scoring chances. Dominic Nocito (Delran/Delran) ripped a volley shot off the outside of the post with eight minutes left in the period. Sal Pistone (Blackwood/Highland) labeled a header for the left side of the net six minutes later but Poster made a diving save.

NYU turned the tables in the second half, outshooting the Ospreys 10-1. The Violets nearly scored early in the period on a chip shot by Paolo Luciano that glanced off the post. NYU also registered the only shot of the first OT on a blast by Adam Fein that was denied on a diving stop by Brett. Rafferty’s penalty kick was the only shot of the second overtime, and it gave Stockton the dramatic 1-0 triumph.
