Jess McQuillen

Boxscore

Jess McQuillen’s (Tabernacle/Seneca) second goal of the game, 56 seconds into overtime, propelled Richard Stockton (5-3-2, 1-2 NJAC) to a thrilling 4-3 victory over William Paterson (1-4, 0-3 NJAC) on Saturday afternoon. The win snapped a four-game winless streak for the Ospreys and extended the Pioneers losing skein to three, all in overtime

The first half saw the Ospreys take a commanding 3-1 lead on goals by McQuillen, Amanda Magana (Sicklerville/ Timber Creek) and Brianna DeStefano (Williamstown/ Williamstown). The scores offset an early Pioneers’ tally by Sheray Anthony.

McQuillen assisted on Magana’s goal, which came on a header off a corner kick, while Briana Fischer (Brick/Brick) made the pass to DeStefano for her score. Michelle Marabondo had the helper on Anthony’s marker for WPU.

The second half saw the Pioneers tie the score on two unassisted tallies by Marabondo and Ashley Grabowski. Grabowski’s score came on a free kick from 25 yards out with just under nine minutes to play.

Both teams had a chance to win it in regulation but a shot by Laela Brock  hit the right post with 45 seconds left, then the Ospreys’ Jessica Balnis (Dorothy/Buena) had a shot deflected by Paterson goalie Alyssa Falduto to send it to the extra frame. McQuillen’s game-winner came on a left-footed shot from the top of the box that snuck under the cross bar. Balnis registered the assist with a well-played pass.

Stockton goalkeeper Sarah Hinkle (Mullica Hill/Paul VI) made two saves in picking up her fifth win of the season. Falduto kicked out four shots for the Pioneers in suffering the defeat.
