ASHLEY GUBISTA NAMED NJAC ROOKIE OF THE WEEK

Richard Stockton freshman Ashley Gubista (Massapequa, NY/Massapequa) collected her third NJAC weekly volleyball award of the season.

Gubista was named NJAC Rookie of the Week for the second time and she also has an NJAC Defensive Player of the Week honor to her credit. The Ospreys’ libero averaged a team-high 4.24 digs per set in five matches to help Stockton to a 4-1 record last week.

Gubista led the team in digs in four of the five contests, starting with 18 digs in a sweep of William Paterson on September 29. The freshman also recorded her first career kill against the Pioneers.

Gubista then totaled 54 digs in four matches at the Stevens Ducks Invitational over the weekend. She gave her best performance of the tournament with 16 digs in a Stockton victory over Polytechnic on Saturday.

Gubista also registered three assists and one service ace last week. The rookie leads the Ospreys and ranks second in the NJAC in digs with 5.29 per set to help the team to a 15-5 overall record and a perfect 4-0 mark in conference play. Stockton will put their 16-match NJAC winning streak on the line when they visit New Jersey City on October 6 at 7 pm.
