BIRNBAUM COLLECTS 100TH WIN AT STOCKTON

Richard Stockton head coach Phil Birnbaum collected his 100th career victory as the Ospreys (5-3, 3-2 NJAC) defeated Kean (4-3, 0-3) 6-3.

Birnbaum, the only coach in the program’s 11-year history, has a career record of 100-38 for an impressive .725 winning percentage. The win also was Stockton’s third NJAC triumph in four days.

Stockton took control of the match by winning all three doubles contests. Krystle Bendijo (Egg Harbor Twp./EHT) and Laura Church (Wall/Ranney School) won 8-3.

Brittany Hall (Rancocas/Rancocas Valley) and Sam Koropchak (West Milford/West Milford) edged their opponents in a tiebreaker 9-8 (7-4). Jaclyn Britton (Brick/Brick Memorial) and Slone Portner (Shamong Seneca) completed the sweep with an 8-1 rout.

The teams split the six singles matches. For Stockton, Koropchak won her fourth straight match, 6-0, 6-1. Hall and Scout Bauer (Haddon Twp./Haddon Twp.) each posted her third consecutive win, 6-0, 6-2 and 7-5, 6-0 respectively.

For Kean, Jaelynn Lee won 6-4, 6-7 (5-7), 1-0 (11-9) in a super-tiebreaker and Erika Tapia  notched a 6-4, 6-4 victory. Lauren Petrucelli prevailed on an injury default for the Cougars.
